Turn in unused prescriptions on Drug Take Back Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Saturday is prescription drug take-back day across the country.

Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the drive will accept unwanted prescription drugs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find your nearest drop-off location from over 4,000 drop-off locations nationwide. DEA websiteincluding Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Kentwood, East Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, Wayland, Lowell, Zeeland, Hastings, Lake Odessa, Lakeview, and Three Rivers.


According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, more than 300 people die every day from drug overdoses. According to the DEA, many of these deaths obtained prescription drugs from family members or friends.

The “Drug Take Back” event is held twice a year and allows people to drop off their leftover or no longer needed prescription drugs anonymously and for free. Throughout the rest of the year, drug storage can be found at more than 13,000 pharmacies, hospitals, police stations, and businesses. A list of these locations can be found here: DEA website.
