Adrienne Mishler’s living room has always been her stage. As the shy only child of two actors, the Texas native has always felt most comfortable expressing her creativity at home. She imagined her own world, staged a play using her mother’s theatrical model, and set up a camera on a tripod to film it.
Decades later, Adrian still makes videos in his living room. However, it is now watched by nearly 13 million YouTube subscribers. She is a hatha yoga teacher with over 500 hours of training and her channel is yoga with adrienhas been used as an accessible welcome mat for home yoga practice for over 12 years. A lot has changed for Adrian in that time, but a lot has stayed the same.

As 2022 approached, Adrian hit a wall. She began the process of freezing her eggs. This is something I wanted to do before the coronavirus but couldn’t do it. She planned to take a day or two off after the egg retrieval process and then return to work immediately. Also, something more was revealed. Adrian had spots in his eyes and felt a tingling sensation in his limbs. She thought it must be due to stress and hormones. Later, while traveling in Mexico City, I experienced my first panic attack and went to the hospital, fearing I had a blood clot or a stroke.
After sharing this story with loved ones, Adrian learned how common panic attacks are and that they can occur even in people who are professionally trained to be in tune with their own bodies. Adrian’s instinct was to create more videos using yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation to help reduce panic and anxiety. Her dog Benji, a blue heeler who is always at the foot of her yoga mat, is also a source of calm. “Benji is one of my biggest and dearest allies just for remembering what it is,” she says. “Being in this state of being with awareness and a kind heart is Benji.”
Currently, Adrian wants to explore more of his passions, such as acting. After all, her desire to become a better storyteller through movement is what led her to yoga. She wants to write a book this year. And while she dreams of the next evolution of Yoga with Adrian, she also takes time to celebrate the beauty of what she’s already created.
She feels especially connected to her community and believes her soul-aware yoga practice keeps trolls and negativity at bay. Her teachings are yielding tangible results and are finally starting to work for her.
“It all comes down to yoga,” she says. “It’s such a cool feeling to think that just by spending a little time at home on the mat, we can become better friends and emerge into the world a better place. Can you believe that?” Thanks to Adrian. We can all do that.
