FAIRMONT, W.Va. — WVU Medicine officially launches $1.5 million expansion at Fairmont Gateway Clinic.
Clinic Manager Michelle Wilson said acute care will move to the new portion, expanding adult and pediatric primary and specialty care.
“When we first built five years ago, it was the clinic shell space that remained undeveloped until we determined the needs of the largest community in our area,” Wilson said. rice field.
In 2022, the clinic will report 77,000 patient visits, a 45% increase in patient numbers since 2020. The emergency room is open 24/7 and is closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“It’s time to develop other parts of the clinic so that we can increase patient access, maintain appointment times and reduce wait times,” Wilson said.
Originally, the extra space was planned to be used for MRI and CT imaging, but it was decided that as the number of patients increased, the community needed access to more care.
“We’ve added 11 additional labs, five operating rooms to support the clinic, including clean utility rooms and office space, plus a procedure room,” Wilson said.
Fairmont Gateway Clinics currently offer 13 services.

“Many of the doctors here also practice in Morgantown,” Wilson said. “So they’re receiving the same quality care, but it’s much more accessible because they’re receiving it in their hometown.”
The Fairmont Gateway Clinic is visible from the interstate and can be accessed from exit 136 off Interstate 79.
