A spokesperson for Novo Nordisk, manufacturer of Ozempic, told Fox News Digital in a statement: “We understand and empathize with the health challenges this patient faced. While we cannot comment on this specific incident, we are deeply concerned about the safety and health of patients who take our medicines and strongly encourage all patients to stay in close contact with their medical professionals for proper diagnosis, appropriate treatment, ongoing guidance and careful monitoring.”

It also points out that “Ozempic (semaglutide injection) is a prescription medicine for people with type 2 diabetes and must be prescribed by a healthcare professional and taken as prescribed under strict supervision.” Patients should make all decisions about their treatment together with their healthcare professional, so that doctors can assess their individual medical profile and determine whether it is appropriate to prescribe the medicine. Obtaining prescription medicines without a valid prescription poses a direct risk to health.

“Above all, patient safety is Novo Nordisk’s top priority. We work closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and all regulatory authorities around the world to continuously monitor the safety profile of our medicines,” the statement concluded.
