Bob Savitt is a woodturner, cellist, and professor emeritus of physics at UM.
As a theoretical physicist, his scientific work spanned high-energy physics, nonlinear systems, and statistical mechanics.
Working with timber for over 25 years, Savit uses local domestic hardwoods and some imported timbers to create a variety of elegant pieces, from bowls and platters to wall hangings and decorative hollow vase shapes. creating an instrument. He emphasizes balance and form in his work, striving to provide a showcase for the warm and inviting grain and shape of wood. Some of his works incorporate discreet surface decoration such as engraving, texturing and coloring.
Some of his work is currently on display at Michigan Medicine.
