A women-only gym has opened and is dedicated to keeping women “safe and comfortable” when exercising.
Katie Maddock, Ashley Barth, and Lucy Maddock met while they were all working at Pure Gym and decided they wanted to open a safe space for women to train and learn about exercise. At the time, Katie and Ashley were her personal trainers and Lucy was her manager and assistant at the gym.
The three found that women often didn’t feel comfortable in the weights area of the gym and wanted to save up to make their dreams come true. Ahead of Girl Code’s opening, Katy, 26, told her ECHO:

“We decided to save some money to open our own gym.We found a unit available and it was perfect, so we chose it. It’s just for safety and comfort.
“I’ve noticed a lot of women go to the gym and do only cardio, so I’m focusing on resistance training and educating people about exercise.”
Opening today on Cashel Road, Warajee, the gym offers a number of classes throughout the week for beginners, veterans and over 50s. “After years of hard work to bring our dream vision to life, it’s finally here,” Katy said.
