Woman, 22, Dies at Gym While Doing Barbell Squats

A 22-year-old woman collapsed while lifting barbells at a local gym and was pronounced dead after paramedics diagnosed her with a lack of oxygen.

Ariana Lizeth Mata Esparza was working out at a local gym in Torreon, Mexico, when she suddenly collapsed while performing barbell squats. Daily Mail I will report.

Paramedics were unable to revive Esparza and he was pronounced dead at the scene, possibly from anoxia caused by overexertion, the media reported.

Fainting or feeling “dizzy” while exercising is common, one article reports. Massachusetts General Brigham.

“It’s normal to get short of breath during exercise, but we can be so engrossed in the activity that we forget to take a proper, deep breath,” Caroline Schepker, M.D., a sports medicine physical therapist who treats patients at Wentworth-Douglas Hospital at Massachusetts General Hospital Brigham, told .

“Many of us tend to use the wrong muscles when taking a deep breath, or we may hold our breath during strenuous exercise.”

But there are underlying issues that cause dizziness, Schepker said.

These include cardiovascular problems, hypoglycemia, neurological disorders, exercising in a hot environment, neurological disorders, or other underlying (possibly undiagnosed) infections.

If you experience dizziness while exercising, it’s important to talk to your doctor, Schepker says.
