What is CrossFit Open?

CrossFit Open is an annual event hosted by CrossFit, Inc. A global fitness competition open to anyone in the world regardless of age, fitness level or location. The CrossFit Open is typically held in late February/early March and lasts three weeks.

CrossFit releases new workouts every week during CrossFit Open. Participants can complete their workouts and submit their scores online within the specified time.

2022 CrossFit Open by the numbers

The competition is divided by age and skill, and participants compete against people with similar abilities. The CrossFit Open serves as the first qualifying stage for CrossFit Games. The CrossFit Games are the ultimate test of fitness where top athletes from around the world compete for the title of “Fittest on Earth”.

A CrossFit Open workout typically includes a variety of exercises that challenge different aspects of fitness such as strength, skill, endurance, power and agility.

Common exercises included in a CrossFit Open workout include:

  • muscle up
  • double under
  • box jumpover
  • snatch
  • clean
  • deadlift
