weight loss exercise during monsoon
Smith says it’s a good idea to combine cardio with strength training. Cardio training is important to keep your cardiovascular system strong. On the other hand, strength training has many benefits such as improved bone health, enhanced metabolism, improved body composition, injury prevention, and increased muscle strength. However, outdoor activities may be restricted during the monsoon season. So even if you can’t make it to the gym, you can do a full-body workout right in your living room. Below are some options.
1. Bodyweight or weighted squat
• Start with your weight off your hips and shoulders on your feet.
• Keep your shoulders down and away from your ears.
• Take a deep breath and engage your core, then sit back as if you were sitting in a chair.
• When the leg reaches the 90 degree angle or depth where the movement stops, return to the set position and repeat.

• Lie on your back and fold your knees to engage your core and perform a glute bridge.
• Press your feet and lift your hips toward the ceiling.
• Squeeze your glutes to the top, slowly lower them back into place, and repeat.
4. Arrange tall boards alternately
• Start in a plank position, with your shoulders down and away from your ears, over your wrists, and your hips tucked in to engage your core. As for the legs, they should be spread from the waist to the width of the shoulders.
• With each arm, lift your elbows toward the ceiling and place your wrists by your hips, hands over your pockets.
• Lower slowly and repeat on the other side.
Apart from weight loss, these workouts improve cardiovascular health, increase endurance, boost energy levels, enhance mood and mental health, and promote overall fitness and body tone. Smith says these exercises also improve functional fitness to perform everyday tasks like lifting things, carrying groceries, chasing children, and climbing stairs. More muscle mass boosts your metabolism, allowing you to burn more calories at rest, even if you’re stuck indoors during the monsoons. That makes weight management and fat loss more achievable, she shares.
But remember to take a holistic approach to weight management. This includes proper nutrition and intake management, combined with regular exercise. To prevent weight gain, it is important to avoid unhealthy eating habits such as excessive calorie intake and maintain a balanced diet. One of the biggest things to avoid during the monsoon season is a sedentary lifestyle. Your couch or bed may seem more comfortable than ever, but lack of physical activity and a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to weight gain. Just find a way to move.
