Fewer people in the U.S. are hitting the gym than expected so far this year because of the drugs they throw up when they go to work out.
Weight loss drugs such as Ozempic and Munjaro are believed to be partly to blame for the drop in attendance.
Some people use it in place of trying to lose weight through exercise, but some who have tried both in parallel have found disappointing side effects.

28 years old working in PR told the New York Post Since she started taking weight loss pills, she had thrown twice during gym training.
Luckily, a trash can was handy so she didn’t embarrass herself too much.
Both times she was sick, she continued with the same training she had been doing for the past few years without any problems. But now she’s on Munjaro and her workouts are making her feel sick.
“The first time it happened, I had only done one cardio interval, but the second time I was working out for almost 25 minutes before the nausea hit,” she said .
But she figured out a simple solution to the problem.
“I know I can’t eat before a workout anymore. I now try to train on an empty stomach in the morning,” she said.
Personal trainer Salim Javed is also aware of this problem.
“I’ve seen several new and experienced patients throw up while taking the drug because of the dizziness and nausea the drug causes,” he told the Post.
He said such an event could go one of two ways. “I’ve seen it motivate people to go back into combat, otherwise they never come back.”
This trend comes as some gyms struggle to hit the numbers typically expected at this time of year.
January is usually the busiest month, thanks to people who made New Year’s resolutions to stay healthy but haven’t yet realized that they can’t be bothered to follow through.
Equinox trainer Makenna Diehl told the Post that gym attendance among clients who started taking the drug was cut in half.
“Some people use Ozempic to start losing weight. “However, some people lose the motivation to exercise once they start traveling,” she said.
“I used to have clients who would go to the gym three hours a day, but since they started going to Ozempic, they stopped coming.”
