OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Health released Apple Health’s May update data on Friday, according to an HCA news release. After the COVID-19 public health emergency ends, states will need to resume verifying eligibility for state health care.
HCA Executive Director Sue Birch said in a news release that HCA intends to make the data public and spread awareness of the return verification process.

The updated data shows how many Washington residents maintained their Apple Health coverage in May, the first month for which data was available after the reopening of verification. According to a news release, half of the 230,000 Apple Health customers surveyed in May are still insured. 116,000 customers were unenrolled for not responding to requests to update their information.
The news release states that if an Apple Health customer’s coverage is terminated for non-renewal, there will be a 90-day reconsideration period during which they can re-enroll and be reinsured. If you are determined to be eligible for Apple Health, your coverage will be restored to the date you canceled your enrollment, with no gaps in your coverage. You can reapply for coverage at any time, even after the 90-day review period.
