He also praised “globalists” for using LED bulbs to reduce energy consumption. “Our government has launched a scheme for LED bulbs that also involves the private sector. International experts here say Indians have installed over 160 million LED bulbs. You will be surprised to know that it leads to a reduction of 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi and UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday launched Mission LiFE, a global action plan aimed at saving the planet from the dire consequences of climate change. The launch comes ahead of the big UN climate conference in Egypt next month.
The Action Plan – a list of ideas on lifestyle changes that can be taken up as climate-friendly actions – and the Mission LiFE (Lifestyles for the Environment) logo and tagline, co-launched by Modi and Guterres . Modi said Mission LiFE will enhance the concept of a human-friendly planet, adding that he aims to follow a three-pronged strategy for changing people’s collective approach towards sustainability.
This includes encouraging individuals to practice simple and effective eco-friendly behaviors in their daily lives (demand), enabling industries and markets to respond quickly to changes in demand (supply), This includes influencing government and industrial policies to support both sustainable consumption and production. (policy).
France, Argentina, Georgia and Estonia sent congratulatory telegrams to the Prime Minister on the launch of the mission.
