Rowan University and Virtua Health today celebrated the opening of the Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences Rowan University. The joint effort, supported by an $85 million donation from Virtua Health, the second-largest endowment in Rowan’s history, and $125 million donated by Rowan, will open a research facility on Rowan’s west campus. as well as attracting and expanding the university’s professional and student roster. in Glassboro.

The new college will include three different schools, research centers and institutes.
- Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine: New Jersey’s only osteopathic medical school. Rowan Virtua SOM, which has campuses in Stratford and Sewell, will admit 272 students in 2022. This is the largest class of admissions within the New Jersey Medical College. The school has received the highest level of accreditation awarded by the University Accreditation Commissions on both campuses. It is focused on meeting critical primary care needs and is recognized nationally for its programs in geriatrics and pain management.
- Rowan-Virtua School of Nursing & Health Professions: Work is well underway to integrate the partner’s established educational programs. Rowan’s College of Nursing and Health (taught online and in Glassboro) and Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing in Virtua are now located. Located on the Stratford Campus in Rowan. Once fully integrated, the expanded Rowan-Virtua School of Nursing & Health Professions will offer several degrees to prospective students and working health and wellness professionals. Students receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing and postgraduate degrees and professional certificates, a bachelor’s degree in medical professionals, and a bachelor’s degree in exercise training, exercise science, nutrition and dietetics, public health and wellness, health promotion and health management. can be obtained.
- Rowan-Virtua School of Translational Biomedical Engineering & Sciences: Once fully developed, the school will serve as a university center for research and innovation. The school will recruit 25 fast-growing faculty and clinical researchers by 2025, and he plans to double that number within 10 years. Three new laboratories will investigate important issues related to cardiovascular disease, solid organ transplantation and regenerative medicine, and health equity.

The leadership teams of both institutions meet regularly to develop each element of the institution’s affiliation agreement. “Since announcing our partnership, we have been committed to combining the best of both Rowan and Virtua,” said Houshmand. “This has been a complex undertaking, but we are driven to raise the bar of excellence in healthcare, research and education.”
Future plans are as follows.
- Collaboration between Rowan Medicine’s clinical practice and Virtua Medical Group.
- Construction of a five-story research and education facility at the Rowans West campus near the intersection of US 322 and US 55.
- Development of a four-year residential Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
