RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR)—Virginia SCC reported that health insurance enrollments on Virginia's Insurance Marketplace increased nearly 14% during the first open enrollment period.
From November 1, 2023 to January 16, 2024, more than 400,000 Virginians will enroll for health insurance on the Virginia Insurance Marketplace, a marketplace that offers health plans that meet the needs of all residents. The mission was successful.
“From the beginning, our goal has been to create a marketplace that is easy to use and connects Virginians and their families with health insurance they can trust,” said Keven Patchett, Director of the Virginia Health Benefits Exchange. states. “We look forward to increasing our impact in the future by reaching more Virginians and connecting enrolled Virginians to other programs they are eligible to participate in.”
Virginia Insurance Marketplacewas created in November to replace HealthCare.gov for Virginia and offers many resources for finding affordable health insurance. All health insurance plans offered include free preventive services, coverage for pre-existing conditions, and cover 10 essential health benefits as required by law.
The open enrollment period has ended, but Virginians who experienced a qualifying life event during the year may be eligible to enroll from January 17 to October 31 during the special enrollment period.
The next open enrollment period will run from November 1, 2024 to January 15, 2025.
