Virginia Beach, Virginia — Boys and girls clubs in southeastern Virginia is stepping in to ensure that childhood mental health is a priority.
This program provides physical and mental health support for children and assists parents with after-school care. To end the crisis, the group is helping families learn more emotional conditioning skills and providing access to resources.
The club is the latest recipient of Bank of America’s “Neighborhood Building” award, which highlights community leadership. With a $200,000 reward, the group plans to use the money to change the community for the better by providing children with a home away from home.
Kevin Will, President and CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs, said:
In the next five years, this organization is determined to make a difference and continue to advocate for children’s mental health.
“We will use this as a starting point to reach out to even more children and provide them with quality access to grow as individuals. With it, more children will serve more families,” Will said.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia serve children ages 6 to 18.
