Anita Oneal works with USC Athletics’ nutrition department to feed football players. Right away, she heads for her bowl of gator.
Columbia, South Carolina—one week from today, University of South Carolina Gamecocks will play at gator bowlAs the team prepares to face Notre Dame in Jacksonville, a special fan prepares to join the team.
“I’m going to the bowl game!” Anita O’Neill yelled.
That’s the exciting news she received as a birthday surprise.
“It was exciting. It was a blessing. I was overjoyed!” she said of her feelings.
Anita says she’s been a “gamecock at heart” all her life. For the past four years, she has had the opportunity to work with USC football players through her nutrition department by helping her serve meals.
“I know everyone’s names. I love them. I interact with them every day. I love it,” Anita said of the players. “I always say I scream their names. I know their names and numbers.”
They affectionately call her “Ms. Anita” and on Christmas Day she joins the team to head to the Gator Bowl.
“I’m excited about everything there. I’ve never been to Florida. They say it’s going to be a lot of fun and I definitely can’t wait for the game,” shared Anita “I make pancakes and waffles and have fun.”
As the team prepares to fight the Fighting Irish, Anita says she feels lucky.
“I know they will win! I know they will win,” Anita told me. “I feel it in my bones. I know they will win.” I know it is.”
