UF Gainesville campus closed, classes canceled Monday – News

Due to Tropical Storm Debby, which is forecast to make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane, the University of Florida campus in Gainesville has been closed and classes have been canceled on Monday, August 5, including all academic and student-related activities, online classes and exams.

The university is expected to announce on Monday, Aug. 5, plans for resuming classes and normal campus operations.

Students living in on-campus residence halls should plan to remain in their residence halls. Students living off-campus should follow local and state guidelines for preparing for tropical storms and hurricanes. Fresh Florida Dining will continue to provide services. On Monday, August 5, only essential University staff should come to work; all other staff should not come to campus. If you have any questions about your role as an essential staff member, please contact your supervisor. UF’s essential staff policy can be found here: https://policy.ufl.edu/policy/essential-employees/.

The majority of UF Health hospitals and clinical practices will remain open, but UF Health Archer Family Health Care, UF Health Family Medicine – Lake City, and UF Health Family Medicine – Old Town will be closed Monday. Visit UFHealth.org for the latest information on closures. UF/IFAS and other UF employees outside of Alachua County should follow county government closure orders and consult with their supervisors.

PK Young Developmental Research School will also be closed Monday, Aug. 5, and will operate on the same schedule as the University of Florida. If Tropical Storm Debby has any further impacts on the school schedule this week, parents will be contacted via phone, email and text message. Announcements will be posted on our website (http://pkyonge.ufl.edu) and shared on Facebook.

Administrators, please notify all employees of this closure. Notification of schedule changes can be found through the link on the UF home page or by calling the information line at 866-UF-FACTS or 866-833-2287. Time reporting information will be provided by the UF Human Resources Office next week.

Bus and shuttle schedules vary depending on wind and weather. Follow the City of Gainesville and RTS on Facebook for the latest updates. Visit go-rts.com for routes and schedules. Students living on campus may leave their cars on campus. Students living off campus should use the regular parking lots.
