Twitter quietly removes policy against deadnaming transgender people – WABE

by Universalwellnesssystems

Twitter has quietly removed its policy against “misgendered or dead-naming of transgender individuals.”

In 2018, Twitter introduced a policy prohibiting the deadnaming or use of a transgender person’s name prior to transitioning to transgender, as well as intentionally using the wrong gender as a form of harassment. enacted.

On Monday, Twitter also said it would only label some tweets that “potentially” violate its rules against hateful conduct. The tweet was previously deleted.

In this policy update, Twitter appears to have removed the line prohibiting dead naming from its rules.

Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of advocacy group GLAAD, said: “This decision to roll back LGBTQ safety moves Twitter further out of step with TikTok, Pinterest, and Meta, all of which show how anti-transgender rhetoric online translates into discrimination and violence in the real world. We maintain similar policies to protect our transgender users when we are connected.”

Twitter promptly responded to a message seeking comment on Tuesday.
