Rice water is famous in Korea as a natural remedy used for skin and hair care, but it is also gaining popularity in India due to its fast-acting and effective effects. Also known as tandurodaka in Ayurveda, this natural elixir is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and has been proven to be beneficial for skin and hair. Beyond the cosmetic benefits, Ayurveda recognizes rice water as a powerful treatment for urinary tract infections (UTIs). This ancient treatment extends its therapeutic benefits to relieve discomfort such as burning sensation, white discharge, and heavy menstrual bleeding. Now, let's see how to use rice water for urinary tract infections.

What is a urinary tract infection (UTI)?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that can affect any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. Common symptoms include a persistent urge to urinate, a burning sensation while urinating, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, and pelvic discomfort. According to a study published in National Library of Medicine, adult women are 30 times more likely to develop a urinary tract infection than men. Therefore, UTIs are more prevalent in women. Medical intervention is essential to completely eliminate the infection, but staying hydrated and maintaining good hygiene may help prevent the infection.

Another study published in Indian Journal of Microbial Research The overall prevalence of UTI was 33.54 percent, of which 66.78 percent were female and 33.22 percent were male. 50 to 60 percent of women will experience at least one urinary tract infection in their lifetime, and one in three will have a symptomatic urinary tract infection that requires treatment by the age of 24. You will experience it at least once.

Is rice water good for urinary tract infections?

The benefits of rice water are not limited to beauty, it may also prevent vaginal infections. “Women who suffer from a urinary tract infection may experience symptoms such as discomfort, burning, and itching that are associated with this infection. You can try Ayurvedic home remedies,” Ayurvedic expert Dr Chanchal Sharma told Healthshot.

What are the benefits of rice water for UTI?

In Ayurveda, rice water, or tandu lodaka, is considered effective in treating urinary tract infections due to its soothing properties. Contains compounds that may reduce irritation and inflammation in the urinary tract. The starch in rice water may form a protective film that may reduce discomfort when urinating. Dr. Sharma said, “Excessive Pitta can generate heat and cause a burning sensation, so increasing blood flow in the body helps reduce Pitta.” It also helps balance vata and kapha, suppresses digestive problems, and relieves the symptoms of burning sensation during urinary tract infections. Additionally, tabdulodaka is thought to have mild diuretic properties, which may promote increased urine production and flush out bacteria from the urinary system. ”
