What a sting!
A traveler was left horrified after accidentally touching a needle on his hotel room bed.
An anonymous man posted an amazing story to reddit Last Friday, we shared a photo of a bent needle and asked people to identify what it was used for.
“What is this? The metal edge stuck into the bed sheets of the hotel where I am staying and scratched my body,” the traveler wrote.
He explained that he was trying to get into bed at an unnamed hotel when the needle “scratched” him.
Commenters noted that the item appeared to be a disposable insulin pen needle cap and urged the man to seek medical attention.
The needle in the photo was bent, so it’s unclear whether it actually penetrated the skin, but the man called for medical attention.
“I’m fine,” the man later wrote, updating concerned Reddit users. “My in-laws and sister are doctors, so I was in touch with them about this as well.”
According to AMA Ethics JournalIf you are stung by a used needle, wash the area immediately with soap and water, report the incident to a health care professional, and fill out an exposure reporting sheet.
If a patient does not have access to testing, the source of exposure should be evaluated for HIV, HBV, and HCV and the likelihood of infection based on the community the hospital serves.
