Spurs fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone lost his battle with fulminant leukemia at the age of 62.
The Italian is one of Antonio Conte’s right-hand men and has joined Tottenham in November 2021.
Tottenham said on Twitter: “We are devastated to announce the passing of fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone. He is greatly missed by all at the club and we are at this incredibly sad time. thinking with his family and friends at the moment,” he tweeted.
La Republicca says Ventrone, nicknamed the “Marine” for his training methods, died overnight in Naples.
Ventrone’s fitness session was so tough it made the players nauseous.
“It’s very normal. Even in London the week before, it was along that line,” Ireland right-back Matt Doherty said in the summer.
“I don’t know if there’s a team that fits better than us. This is tough, the hardest preseason ever. It’s nothing like what I’ve done before. But once the session is over , will give you great satisfaction.
“Your heart was tormented along the way, but when it’s over you feel proud and go to bed thinking, ‘I worked hard today.’ You just think, ‘Don’t quit.’ I’m just there. Even if you have to cross the line or jog or walk to the end.
“It’s the determination our managers have instilled in us to keep moving forward and never quit.”
