WASHINGTON — Health care didn’t play a big role in the election that returned President Trump to the White House and gave Republicans control of Congress. That doesn’t mean Congress will avoid the topic next year.
Trump largely avoided talking about health care during his 2024 campaign, in contrast to his 2016 campaign, when he ran on a promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. But he promised not to take “a penny” out of Medicare and said he would give Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the prominent vaccine critic who was tapped to head the Department of Health and Human Services, broad control over health care reform. . .
But President Trump has promised to extend the personal tax cuts that Republicans passed in 2017 and are set to expire at the end of next year. He also wants to further reduce the corporate tax rate.
