Stephen Sousa
Senior Vice President, Health and Social Services, CGI
Steven Souza’s team’s work to modernize the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ provider administration system and streamline access to Medicare for more than 65 million beneficiaries has been one of his biggest accomplishments over the past year.
The work with CMS ensures compliance and enrollment optimization for over 800 private health and drug plans in the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D programs. Leveraging its expertise in federal regulatory compliance and health policy, the team worked with CMS to implement key new features of the Inflation Reduction Act to expand access to affordable care, reduce drug costs, and stabilize prescription drug premiums.
CGI has also enhanced CMS operations by migrating systems to the AWS Cloud. This modernization effort, along with data analytics and intelligent automation capabilities, demonstrates CGI’s expertise and commitment to compliance, operational effectiveness, and efficiency as healthcare programs evolve and expand.
“As a technologist with a deep passion for the intersection of technology and healthcare, I am honored to lead a team committed to supporting clients through innovative solutions, modernizing and future-proofing their services while ultimately improving their customers’ lives,” said Souza.
Reasons to watch

These alliances have enabled collaboration on integration and modernization services across federal agencies, driving innovation and efficiency by pooling resources and expertise. CGI has also strengthened its capabilities by training AWS professionals, expanding its talent pool, and embracing a culture of continuous learning and growth.
CGI will expand its Healthcare Innovation Center, which opened in late 2023, as a hub of creativity and collaboration to bring next-generation technology tools and AI to federal health care and social services. The company’s innovations will focus on revolutionizing data management and AI integration to make it easier for providers to do their jobs and for patients to get the care they need. This effort will introduce user-friendly tools that streamline health care management and make it more accessible, efficient and accessible to everyone.
