A Canadian TikToker was hospitalized after drinking 4 liters of water for 12 days as part of a viral fitness challenge. On Monday, Michelle Fairbairn shared a video on TikTok about the challenge, which was first started by YouTuber Andy Frisella. She explained that she thought it was water poisoning, which happens when “she drinks more than three to four liters of water in a few hours.”

“I think I’ve got water poisoning. I’m not feeling well at all,” Fairbairn said.

On the 12th day of the challenge, she said she felt sick when she went to bed the night before and had to go to the bathroom multiple times during the night. She said she couldn’t eat, was nauseous, felt weak, and that she “was in the bathroom all morning.”

“I’m doing 75 hard, so I’m drinking an excessive amount of water,” she said. “I don’t know what to do.”

After a series of tests, doctors told her she had a severe sodium deficiency. She was advised to drink less than 0.5 liters of water per day instead of overdoing her with 4 liters per day.

Severe sodium deficiency, or hyponatremia, can be life-threatening if left untreated. Go to Mayo Clinic.

“Sodium deficiency can actually be fatal. So now I’m going to the hospital and I’m going to have everything checked. Then it seems like I can gradually increase my sodium. I’m still on the 75 hard challenge.” and I said, “I’m not giving up, but he says I have to drink less than half a liter of water a day. I can’t believe this is actually happening.” she said in the second video.

Notably, the fitness program was created in 2019 by podcaster and supplement company CEO Andy Frisella, who calls the program “Brain Iron Man.”

“Before beginning 75 HARDTM or any other fitness program, please consult your doctor or other health care professional to determine if it is suitable for your needs. If not, do not start 75 HARDTM,” the website states. .
