Rep. Henry Queller (D-Texas) on Sunday said the Biden administration’s new policy to move closer to the “heart” of immigration policy comes too late in the Biden presidency.
“Now the administration needs to go to the center. I asked them to go to the center. It’s a little too late, but at least they’ve got the policy to come to the center,” he told Fox’s Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday.”
Bream asked Cuellar how much responsibility the Biden administration bears on immigration, pointing to a Fox News poll in which 61% of respondents responded. disapproval About how President Biden treated immigrants. Cueller said Americans were “disgruntled” because they only saw images of people entering the country, not people leaving the country.
“But there was no change in the law or under President Obama. He could use the current law, Title 8, instead of Title 42, and treat people with respect.” But if I had to send it back, I sent it back. He had this image of the plane coming back,” he said.
“Now the only images we see are people coming in. There are no images of people coming back. So yes, the American public is frustrated,” he added. .
Cuellar has previously defended Biden’s immigration policy, saying earlier this year that Biden’s asylum policy, which limited who could apply for asylum, was “reasonable.”
