Boris Becker has taught fitness, nutrition and crisis management to dozens of inmates while in prison on fraud charges.
The German tennis legend was sentenced in April to two and a half years in prison for fraudulently hiding £2.5 million (NZ$5 million) in assets to avoid paying debts. Lawyers claim to have had success in teaching fellow inmates to keep at HMP Huntercombe in Oxfordshire. fit.
Becker’s lawyer, Oliver Moser, told German media:
The 54-year-old sports star is said to have a cell of his own, and his conduct in prison is said to be impeccable.
A close friend said, “He’s popular with his fellow inmates.”
Sources close to Becker say the six-time Grand Slam champion works out in a gym, has lost 8.1kg, and teaches 45 inmates fitness, nutrition, crisis management, and special types of yoga and meditation.
An insider told The Sun, “As an athlete, he knows how to win and avoid defeat.
“He shares his life experiences with fellow inmates.”
Earlier this year, it was reported that Becker was teaching sports science to other inmates, a move that sparked favorable claims about the treatment of the three-time Wimbledon champion in prison.
A source said, “Normally, classroom assistants are seen as a privilege, so they serve for years before they get a job as a class assistant.
“But Becker was given the job within weeks of being sentenced. There is a lot of resentment about it, and some prisoners’ families have written letters of complaint.”
A Prison Service spokesman said: “It is not true to suggest that preferential treatment was given.
“Criminals have access to a variety of job and educational opportunities while in prison.”
