New research from Tebura Here are the top 3 metal bands to appear on mental health playlists.
To compile the report, titled “Healing Harmony: Top Music for Mental Health,” Tebra surveyed more than 1,000 people (208 of whom were healthcare professionals and 793 were non-healthcare professionals) and analyzed more than 68,000 songs on Spotify to find out which genres and artists appear most frequently on mental health playlists.
Of the overall top 10 artists, The Beatles is the only rock artist to make the list, but rock ranked first among genres on the mental health playlist, with metal coming in at number four.
The study found that the rock artists most frequently featured on mental health playlists were The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, respectively, while the metal artists most frequently featured on those playlists were Black Sabbath, Metallica and Slipknot, respectively.
Tebbra also asked participants what benefits they found from listening to music when they were experiencing mental health issues. The results showed that 79% of people turn to music for solace when they are feeling down. Benefits of listening to music when feeling down include improved mood, reduced stress, increased feelings of happiness, and reduced anxiety.
