‘Star Wars’ Child Actor Jake Lloyd On Schizophrenia, Leaving Hollywood

Jake Lloyd shot to fame in 1999 when he played young Anakin Skywalker. Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menacehas opened up about his mental health struggles and diagnosis of schizophrenia, which caused him to leave Hollywood shortly after the film’s release.

in new interview and Star Wars: Timeline Co-authors Clayton Sandell and Jake Lloyd said they are feeling “pretty good” after an 18-month stay at a Southern California mental health facility. He is currently staying at a new rehabilitation center and is still receiving treatment, but he is a free agent as far as leaving and returning is concerned.

“[I feel] “It’s a pretty good result considering the last 20 years that have come to an end,” he said. “I am now able to accept ongoing treatment, therapy and medication. Everyone has been so supportive.”

Part of the problem, as Jake Lloyd’s mother, Lisa Lloyd, said early last year, is that he has anosognosia, a neurological disorder that causes patients to unconsciously deny their symptoms. It was to be overcome.

“There’s no time for uncertainty,” Jake Lloyd said of taking the medication. “It’s just a cushion.” The former actor said that “good things” happened during his treatment, and that he needed to “participate in treatment honestly, take medicine honestly, and live honestly after being diagnosed.” He said he had to experience “rock bottom.”

Jake Lloyd hasn’t been seen at the convention since, but he said the series and its loving fans still have a special place in his heart.

“Experiences with fans are immediately therapeutic. For now, I’m still healing. Helping people, being healthy. That’s not something I’m going to shy away from.”

She added: “We really appreciate you taking the time to give us your time. We really appreciate it.”
