PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Some workers at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are on strike.
Mailers and typographers, members of the Communications Workers of America, will go on strike at midnight Thursday.
Workers are responsible for paper design, printing, distribution, and advertising sales and accounting.
The strike was triggered by the cancellation of health insurance on October 1.
According to Communications Workers of America, Post-Gazette owner Block Communications has refused to pay an additional $19 a week per employee to maintain health care.
Workers pay about $7,300 in premiums annually, they said, and a plan proposed by management would nearly double that amount.
“It is outrageous for Brock Communications, a multi-billion dollar company, to refuse to pay these hardworking employees a small payment to maintain adequate health insurance,” said American Telecommunications Labor. District 2-13 vice president Ed Mooney said in a release Wednesday. “They just showed disrespect to our members. Enough. We will continue to strike until the Post-Gazette recognizes our value to paper and stops infringing on our rights.” increase.”
