OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Six men who overdosed on fentanyl in the Oceanside area have been resuscitated with naloxone, officials said Friday.
Blake Dawes of the Oceanside Fire Department (OFD) said in a news release that the incident occurred at Seagaze Park, adjacent to the beach south of the Oceanside Pier.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found six men who had overdosed on fentanyl, a drug known to be very potent and often deadly.
Dawes said that if patients are not treated promptly, NaloxoneEven if it was an antidote to opioid overdose, men would not have survived the effects of the drug.
Officials said all six patients refused to be taken to the hospital despite the advice of paramedics.
Synthetic opioids will contribute to more than 72,000 deaths in the United States in 2022, according to OFD.
“Oceanside Fire and Police are urging the public to stay away from drugs and encourage them to carry naloxone with them in case they encounter friends or family members who have overdosed,” Dawes said.
