The doctor has revealed some “strange” signs that could indicate that you have iodine deficiency. According to NHS, “Iodine helps to produce thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones help to keep cells and metabolic rates (the rate at which chemical reactions occur in the body) healthy.”
Sources of iodine include cow’s milk and dairy products, eggs, sea fish and shellfish. Thankfully, the NHS says that most people should be able to meet their daily requirements by eating a balanced and diverse diet. But not everyone does that.
The NHS explained: “If you follow a strict vegan diet and don’t eat fish, eggs, cow milk or other dairy products, you may want to consider either iodine-fortified foods or take iodine supplements.”
The NHS says taking too much iodine can be harmful, but taking doses below 0.5mg per day is unlikely to cause harm. If you’re lacking iodine, you may notice “strange” signs.
Dr. Eric Berg DCwho specializes in healthy ketosis and intermittent fasting, has given warning signs to 13 million YouTube subscribers, some saying they are “strange.” He said: “Iodine is essential for the health of your thyroid, and it affects almost every part of your body.
“Unfortunately, iodine deficiency is becoming more and more common due to the depletion of soil and chemicals in the water supply.” In his video titled “Seven warning signs of dangerous nutritional deficiencies,” Dr. Berg set several “strange” signs.
Seven signs experts say they’re looking for:
- Thin outer brow
- Hair removal
- Ho respect
- Enlarge the tongue
- Weight gain of unknown cause
- Increase in estrogen
- Lowered IQ
If you have any of these symptoms, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have iodine deficiency, but it’s best to check it yourself to find the root cause.
Dr. Berg said that if there is a defect, you can notice that hair loss or thinning occurs on the outside of the brow. Similarly, these can also be signs if you feel like you have a lump in your throat, experience weight gain of unknown cause, or notice a depression on the outside of your tongue. In a related note, weight gain from lower back, headaches, severe periods and excessive convulsions could indicate an increase in estrogen, Dr. Berg said.
Thyroid function is linked to cognitive function due to its connection to memory, focus, and parts of the brain involved in problem solving, so some people experience reduced IQ. Dr. Berg suggested that this is the most important sign to note, and explained that it could affect adults of all ages.
Dr. Berg said, “Iodine is essential for proper functioning for thyroid hormones that affect every part of the body. Thyroid hormones affect the ovaries and test circles, regulate estrogen control and aid mood and cognitive function. Hypothyroidism is one of the global health problems.
