TikTok creator Jordan Plaza (@.jordieray) introduces a cheaper alternative to the often expensive Claritin allergy pills in her video, which has 337,800 views at the time of writing.
“This is to remind our neighbors that they don’t have to spend $42 for 115 Claritin tablets,” Plaza said. Instead, she recommends more cost-effective options. “You can buy the Kirkland brand for $12 for 365 tablets.”
She concluded her short PSA by adding, “Just to be clear, it’s like allergic flu season.”
In the video’s caption, Plaza added: “Claritin can be very expensive. I hope this helps!!”
What is the difference between the two?
Kirkland brand Allerclear and Claritin both contain the same active ingredient, loratadine. Loratadine is an antihistamine used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and throat irritation. Each brand provides the same amount of 10mg per tablet.
The only difference between the two brands is in the inactive ingredients.
kirkland’s allergy clear Inactive ingredients include lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, povidone, and pregelatinized starch. ClaritinMeanwhile, we use lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium starch glycolate.
These inactive ingredients do not affect Loratadine’s ability to treat allergies, but they can affect factors such as the tablet’s texture and dissolution.
Finally, it is important to note that there are different ways to process loratadine for use, and this can be an important factor in pricing.

Viewers share their opinions
In the comments section, most viewers supported the TikToker’s advice and shared their own experiences of saving money by choosing generic drugs over name brand drugs.
“As a licensed pharmacy technician, I approve of this message!” one viewer wrote.
“Right! My daughter was prescribed generic Zyrtec for allergies, but insurance won’t cover it,” another woman shared. “That’s why I buy Sam’s brand for much cheaper than Zyrtec brand.”
“I work in a pharmacy and I believe that when people buy branded products it’s because they have some kind of complex about it,” a third said. “I’m adamant that people think they can get away with spending more money.”
