Second gambler admits trying to cash in on scheme involving ex-NBA player Jontay Porter

NEW YORK (AP) — A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a sports gambling scheme. Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter’s NBA career has come to an end..

and Mahmoud Mollah Wednesday wishes, 3 people — including porter — have now publicly acknowledged their role in the scandal. It worked like this: Players were able to withdraw from the game early and win a bet that the tipped gambler would win fewer points than the sportsbook expected.

Porter, Mora; Ron Phi Pham Pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. 2 other men is also charged I haven’t entered any petitions or anything.

Mora, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, is scheduled to be sentenced May 2 in federal court in Brooklyn. He could face anything from prison to 20 years in prison.

His attorney, Andrew Levin, declined to comment Wednesday.

Porter played briefly in games on January 26 and March 20, scoring no points, before being sidelined due to injury or illness.

According to the court complaint, Mora used his knowledge of Porter’s March 20 scheme to place a bet that would divide more than $1 million in profits among his co-conspirators, including a 24% cut for Player. But one gambling company became suspicious and stopped Mr. Mora from collecting most of the money.

The NBA eventually investigated and banned Porter for life. He later told the court that he took part in the fraud “to escape a large gambling debt.”

Mr Porter is awaiting sentencing on December 18th.
