Melanie DeFilippis created a community.

“This is a way of inspiration and hope to get through this crisis,” DeFilippis said.

That crisis is the mother’s mental health.

DeFilipis has turned her own painful experience of a late miscarriage and severe postpartum depression into a positive and supportive platform for others.

The Leto Health app is a free resource designed to guide and support women dealing with infertility treatment, pregnancy loss, and postpartum mood disorders.

“What I did hurt so badly that I realized that in order to help women and develop resources to help women, we need to build something that is just as hurtful and doesn’t make them feel lost. I said to myself, ‘It hurt,”’ DeFilippis said. “That’s how I was able to come to terms with what I was going through.”

Developing the app was a way of healing for DeFilippis, who spent three years visiting hundreds of women suffering similarly.

These conversations are the catalyst for this peer support app.

“Women really want to help other women,” DeFilippis says. “The experience is so unique that you really need other experiences to understand what you’re going through.”

The Leto Health app aims to empower women and birth parents in dealing with maternal health challenges, but what really matters is that women feel heard. It’s about making them feel it, DeFilippis says.

“Anyone who feels like they can find something here is invited, even if it’s just a friend,” DeFilippis added. “Everyone is supported. There’s no harm in trying it. It’s free. Give it a try.”

Leto Health was released just a few weeks ago and is available for free download from the Apple and Android app stores.
