ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Crisis Response Unit at Round Rock will receive $1 million in federal funding, Rep. John Carter announced Friday.
This funding will support mental health first responders in units made up of behavioral problem specialists and paramedics. According to Carter, the city receives about 2,000 mental health-related calls each year.
“This project will facilitate mental health treatment and focus local law enforcement on responding to criminal activity,” Carter said in a statement.
This unit was created in 2022 as a division within the Round Rock Fire Department. City.
“Their presence and ability to connect the resources people need will make local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical services more efficient throughout the community,” Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said in a statement. We will be able to provide effective public safety services.
Funding came from the 2022 Federal Appropriations Bill.
