Washington – Senator Jim Rich (R-Idaho) welcomed four interns to the Senate office in Washington DC in the fall of 2022. federal level.
“Senate internships provide young Idaho leaders with the opportunity to experience the federal policy-making process first-hand.” Rish said. “I have complete confidence that these people will learn a lot and serve the State of Idaho.”

Senator Rich’s Washington D.C. Intern:
Keeley Kloss is the daughter of Lisa Johnson and Steve Kloss Graduated from Capital High School in Boise. Keeley is in his sophomore year studying Political Science and Global Studies at Boise State University. While he is in Washington, DC, he hopes to gain valuable knowledge about natural resources and foreign policy, and the relationship between Congress and the judiciary. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping and playing soccer.
Audrey Earle, daughter of Alison Earle and Brendan Earle I grew up in Meridian and attended the Idaho Fine Arts Academy. Her senior year at the University of Dallas, Audrie is working towards a degree in business. During her internship, she hopes to develop her understanding of small business and financial policy and develop her professional relationships. Off the Hill, Audrey can be found in workout classes, hiking, or cooking.
Jake Esperand, son of Patrick Esperand and Diane Esperand Originally from Coeur d’Alene, he attended Lake City High School. He is in his senior year at the University of Idaho with a degree in Political Science and International Studies. This fall, Jake is interested in learning about Congress’ diplomatic efforts and national security policy. Outside the office, he enjoys playing golf and computer games.
Kody Smoot is the son of Laura Lusty and Jason Smoot. and from Pocatello. Kody, who graduated from Century High School, will graduate from Boise State University in December with a degree in health informatics and information management. This fall, he looks forward to expanding his knowledge of health policy by working in policy areas related to mining and forestry. Kody enjoys basketball, golf, camping and cornhole.
The Congressional Intern Program is for college students who want to learn more about the legislative process and how Congress operates. Selection is made through an application process that includes submission of resumes, college transcripts, and references.
