Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suggested that antidepressants may be as addictive as Heroins, in a hearing hearing from the Senate, a secretary of health and welfare. This is a contradictory claim to research.

Kennedy’s comment at the hearing on Wednesday was one of the many controversies he had about drugs and addiction.

71 -year -old Kennedy has been a heroin user for more than 10 years in adolescence, but he often talks. He has recovered for 42 years with his second confirmation hearing on Thursday.

He is not a medical training, but is an antidepressant critic, a selective serotonin re -import inhibitor, or a drug called SSRI.

“I know people, including members of my family. They have been much worse than getting off the heroin,” Kennedy said in a hearing.

Studies over decades have shown that SSRI is safe and effective, but heroin is very addictive for almost all users.

“The antidepressant and heroin are in a different universe for poisoning risk,” says Keith Humfreze, who is studying poisoning at Stanford University. “In 35 years in the field of addiction, only a few people thought that thousands of people who were hooked on heroin and other opioids were hooked on antidepressants. “

Research published in medical magazines Lancet It turns out that serious withdrawal symptoms affect only about one person who uses antidepressants. It is important to take care of a doctor when you get off the SSRI and gradually be tapned.

Kennedy made Previous statement Regarding his approach to recovery from poisoning, about promoting the concept of a “healing farm” where poisoning people live and work. Many people who study drug usage disorders have questioned the approach because they focus on the moral aspects of recovery, rather than using the best practices in medical care.

Kennedy stated in his testimony that poisoning treatment that incorporated outdoor work should be used by people with substance use disorders, but no one is forced to “kick and shout”. Not all.
