The Reading Man emphasizes a valuable cause, one step at a time. Brian Sptek has walked 2,500 miles along Africa in recent months. He visited the continent from June 2024 to January 2025, walking for four months of that time.

Stupek traveled to South Africa, Namibia and Angola.

He told KRCR that he is someone with bipolar disorder and his goal is to raise mental health awareness while supporting the International Bipolar Foundation.

“I wanted to go on a trip where I met people, but I felt like it was making a difference,” Stupek said.

He said, “I wanted to talk about how a 9-on-5 job doesn’t actually work for everyone, but there’s an alternative. This is a way to help your mental health.

Stutek began his days around 6am, then walked until 10pm, taking a break during the day.

While in Africa he was invited to a wedding in Namibia, went on a safari and walked with Sai. He also stopped by school to tell students about his mental health.

Next, Stupek will start in Italy and trek through three European countries.
