Licensing authorities in Uttarakhand have suspended the manufacturing licenses of 14 products manufactured by Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy for repeatedly making misleading advertisements about their efficacy. The regulator’s order cited violations of the Medicines and Magical Cures (Offensive Advertising) Act and the Medicines and Cosmetics Act by misleading advertising practices.

The government order comes after yoga guru and businessman Baba Ramdev, who has been repeatedly criticized by the Supreme Court for not following its directions in an ongoing case seeking an injunction against misleading advertising. It was the latest setback for him.

The case relates to allegations by the Indian Medical Association that Ramdev’s Patanjali disparages traditional medicines and continues to run misleading advertisements despite court orders to stop.

Ramdev acknowledged his company’s negligence and issued a public apology through newspaper advertisements.

The judge is considering whether to apply contempt charges against Ramdev.
