Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is caused by the interplay of genetic and environmental factors, including genetic vulnerability, food choices, lifestyle, and estrogen exposure. It focuses on the factors and the role of integrated oncology in their prevention.
Treatment for breast cancer typically includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and/or hormone therapy. But cancer patient care is much more comprehensive than these. It includes alleviating symptoms, managing treatment-related side effects, coping with fears, and coping with existential distress. It also extends to caring for caregivers.
Integrative oncology is a specialty that aims to provide this holistic care to everyone undergoing the cancer treatment journey. The goal is to improve an individual’s quality of life during and after treatment, and in some cases even after the cancer is cured. All these interventions are recommended using an evidence-based approach, as safety is our top priority.
Integrative oncology helps women make choices to prevent breast cancer, slow its growth if it occurs, and prevent breast cancer from recurring after treatment. and the symptoms of the disease or its treatment.
Where integrative approaches may interfere with standard cancer care, they are avoided while women are receiving treatment. Integrative oncology uses evidence-based treatment when available. These treatments are based on the best available research and clinical experience. Integrative medicine focuses on healing the body, mind and spirit. Each person has their own path to healing. The best approach is to reduce your lifetime risk of developing cancer and focus on growing and improving your health.
