Authorities in Wake Forest, North Carolina, say a rabid cat bit a woman.
Galvan died at the scene. A Lexington man is now accused of performing sexually explicit acts on a child at a park. Victor Everhart, 71, of Warren, is charged with felony lewd conduct. Police say he performed sexually explicit acts on a 5-year-old at a park on March 14. Everhart was given $1,000 bail. He is due back in Randolph County court on July 1. The man is accused of pursuing officers in a stolen vehicle. According to the sheriff’s office, they attempted to stop Isaiah Stearns Johnston on I-85 north in Archdale on Wednesday. He allegedly sped off and fled, and deputies pursued him to Highway 62, where they took him into custody. Investigators say marijuana was found during a search of the stolen vehicle. High Point Police are investigating two thefts that occurred about 15 minutes apart. The first incident happened at Swede Bake Shop around 4:15 a.m. Thursday. The second incident happened at Porterhouse Burger Company around 4:30 a.m. A High Point bakery was a mess when a masked man broke in, ransacked the store and stole the cash register. There were hundreds of dollars in the cash register at the time. The whole break-in was caught on camera. We all work so hard to have everything we have and someone would break in and steal it, it’s really, really sad. It’s kind of infuriating. It’s sad for them and it’s sad for us. Uh, it’s a really horrible person to do that. Employees say the man was in and out in five minutes or less. It remains a question in High Point whether he was a customer before. Police are investigating both break-ins, but it’s still unclear if the two are related. Let’s go outside. What’s happening now. The City of Greensboro is hosting a free event on violence prevention. It will be played at Barber Park Amphitheater until 7 p.m. with intent. It’s a nice afternoon for the area. Each group will speak about their services, and local leaders will talk about ways to reduce violence in the Gate City. Games, music and community art projects will also be part of tonight’s event. And tomorrow, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and Atrium Health will team up to distribute free gun locks. This will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Health Plaza on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. In addition to gun locks, general safety items such as life jackets and bicycle helmets will also be distributed. A Confederate statue that stood in downtown Winston-Salem will be moved to Denton. Mayor Allen Jones said the 1905 monument will be moved to Borough Park. There’s no word on when that will happen or how much it will cost the city to move it. The statue of a uniformed Confederate soldier carrying a rifle was removed from Fourth and Liberty Streets in 2019, but city leaders said it was a safety hazard.
