Lose weight, belly fat, and reduce stress in just 28 days is trending all over social media. But does the wall Pilates challenge work? We teamed up with two women determined to find out the answer. “I’ve seen the ads, so I’ve always wanted one,” Torrance Brown said. She is knowledgeable about fitness. Brown helps others as a trainer at the Parkway Community YMCA in West Roxbury. Now she wants to work on herself. “Well, we always want to get rid of this,” she said, pointing to her belly. “But the main goal is to continue doing Pilates on a regular basis.” I plan on getting help to achieve it. Hayes also wants to see if this challenge can be accomplished. “I’m interested to see what level of instruction they provide because there are a lot of small details to the Pilates movement. So the reason I’m here is to be able to thoroughly instruct our students.” ‘That’s part of the exercise,’ Hayes said. We opted for the “Better Me Wall Pilates Challenge,” which promises a customized plan for about $15. Brown sits alongside Hayes, fills out a simple questionnaire, and is given a 28-day Pilates roadmap. Once she downloads the app, she’s off! “I think like anything you add to your daily routine, it’s going to be a struggle at first,” Brown said. “But my goal is that by the 14th, I don’t have to think about it so much, and by the 21st it becomes second nature. Hopefully by the 28th, I don’t have to think about it so much.” This experiment fits perfectly into the YMCA’s mission. They are in the midst of their ‘Together We Move’ initiative, which aims to make everyone more mobile in our region. Tune in to Brown and Hayes on Newscenter 5 every Thursday at 4pm for the next four weeks to find out how this challenge goes.
