The development of the New World gym in Cantonment is not the end of the family’s favorite pumpkin patch, organizers say.
The Allen Memorial Methodist Male Pumpkin Patch marks the 35th year of the annual Pumpkin Patch on Highway 29 near Neil Road.
As reported last week, World Gym is proposing to build a facility on the property, but the boys group says the new property owner will carve out the area for pumpkin sales.
The church has confirmed that they are in the process of selling the property, but they hold a small plot of land for the pumpkins. “In fact, we already have delivery dates for the 2025 pumpkin season.”

The developers are proposing a 30,000-square-foot commercial building on an undeveloped 18.8-acre site. The 1275 North Highway 29 building features the World Gym Health and Fitness building, along with two other spaces leased with 103 parking spaces. The 103-space facility’s parking lot is accessible from both Neil Road and Highway 29.
The proposal was recently submitted to Escambia County, with a pre-application meeting being set up on Wednesday with the Escambia County Development Review Board.
World Gym is currently a building built in 1945 at 110 South Highway 29 and operates a 6,583-square-foot gym across from the railway intersection and International Paper. The company has not announced whether the location will be closed if a new facility is built. It has a location in Escambia County, the second international brand, located on North Nine Avenue.
