Professor Eric Kaufman on why woke people are more likely to be mentally ill

Speaking exclusively to GB News, a leading professor has claimed woke people are more likely to suffer from mental illness.

Professor Eric Kaufman told GB News that “people with mental illness are more woke”, but stressed that “mental illness is not the main reason for wokeness”.

Kaufman, a Canadian academic at the University of Buckingham, quoted American author Jonathan Haidt as saying “we are facing a mental health crisis.” [and] At the same time, there is this great awakening happening.”

The Canadian professor continued, “The students [are] “They say words are violence.”

Professor Eric Kaufman told GB News that woke people are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression.

“One of the things it suggests is that there’s some sort of connection between psychological vulnerability and support for censorship to protect against speech you don’t like, and I think there’s some truth to that, but I don’t think that’s the bulk of the story.”

“So I looked at the US student data, which says, for example, it’s more a question of where you are on the scale from left or right, or liberal to conservative, and if you’re very liberal, you’re probably very woke.”

Kaufman said people with woke views support censorship, saying, for example, “we don’t want people coming onto campus who say BLM is a hate group. [or that] Abortion should be banned.”

“So if you compare someone who is very liberal but has mental health issues to someone who is very liberal but has mental health issues, the very liberal person with mental health issues is more likely to say, ‘Keep these speakers off campus.'”

“The differences are very small” and better explained by “the ideology that has metastasized and spread since the ’60s,” said the professor, who has written several books analysing attitudes to awakening.

Discussing people on the right who suffer from mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression, he said, “Some studies have shown that the more right-leaning you are, the more Trump supporters you are, or, for example, if you’re a white male, you’re more likely to say you’ve been discriminated against because of your race.”

On the other hand, left-leaning depressed people are more likely to “agree that America is a racist country, but also to agree that Italians are racist, Chinese people are racist, Hispanics are sexist, and African Americans are homophobic.”

A Finnish study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology in March found that people with high-awake thoughts are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression.

The researchers found that rates of mental health problems were particularly high among respondents who agreed that racism is the reason white people earn more on average than black people.

Kaufman’s new book, “The Third Awakening,” describes demographic differences in cultural attitudes toward woke ideas.

For example, the professor argues that young women are more likely to support censoring authors who disagree with them, such as J.K. Rowling.

On the other hand, young men are more likely to support freedom of speech.

Kaufman said it’s not a “myth” that some young people are more conservative in their views. “Woke people are still the mainstream of youth culture, but I think there’s also a rebellious, contrarian, almost troll-like anti-wokeness,” he said.

“So,” he continued, “there’s this polarization that’s happening.”
