President Drupadi Murmu on Wednesday stressed the need for extensive research in Ayurveda as it has treatments for many diseases.
Speaking at the 75th foundation anniversary celebrations of Gopabandhu Ayurveda College here, Murmu said one can stay disease-free throughout life by practicing yoga and staying connected with nature. .
“Research can prove the scientific basis of any method. Evidence builds trust among people and trust expands the path of acceptance,” the President said while appealing to Ayurvedic students to engage in research. said.
Mr. Murmu said that he is aware of the remedies that are popular among the tribal people for the treatment of certain ailments, and that some of the tribal elders have knowledge about various ailments and the medicinal herbs needed for their treatment. He said he knew some people.
“However, that traditional knowledge is gradually being lost. I hope that some of you (students) will be interested in exploring the scientific basis of that treatment. The President said he wanted to draw the attention of students and researchers that the Odisha palm leaf manuscripts preserved in the state museum contain a lot of information about Ayurveda. Many people keep palm leaf manuscripts in their homes.
The president said, “Apart from literature, the palm leaf documents also contain descriptions of medical methods.I hope that research will continue in this direction and efforts will be made to make hidden treatment methods available to the public.”
The President said that people all over the world now want to learn yoga and Ayurveda.
