Dave Richardson did not reveal the exact weight he was bench pressing during the training session, but a closer look at the plates seen in the video suggests he was handling 220 kilograms (486 pounds). This is a load he’s used to lifting, but this time it tragically led to an unexpected accident.
As he began the lift, Dave carefully lowered the barbell to his chest and paused before starting the upward press. Almost instantly, his right arm was buckled under tension. Dave Richardson’s injuries seem to be extremely serious and could lead to months of recovery. But there’s no doubt Dave will return stronger than ever. However, this is a reminder that PowerLifting can risk injuries, even for athletes competing at the highest level.

Specifically, the 17-year-old lifter from India unfortunately lost his life while attempting a 595 pound (270 kilograms) squat in training. She lost her balance and ended up falling backwards. However, the barbell fell on her neck, resulting in her tragic passing.

Dave Richardson has a very rich and fulfilling powerlifting background and has competed in sports for eight years. During that period, Dave made 17 licensed powerlifting appearances, 11 of which were won. His most prolific victory came at 2024 ABS Clash of Titans 2. There he deadlifted 432.5 kilograms (953.5 pounds) to win the gold medal. He wanted to add more titles in 2025, but the injury delayed his goal.
