Pork fat ranks 8th in the list of the world’s 100 healthiest foods in terms of its nutritional value. The list by BBC Future features the 100 most nutritious foods calculated and ranked by scientists. Scientists studied more than 1,000 foods and assigned them nutrition scores. And this came to light after much thought and consideration.

Pork fat ranks 8th with a nutritional score of 73 out of 100. The calorie content of 100g of pork fat is 632kcal. Pork fat is an excellent source of B vitamins and minerals. It is more unsaturated and healthier than lamb fat. According to Healthline, pork fat is low in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and slightly rich in unsaturated fat.

Clarified pork fat, known as lard, is sometimes used as a cooking fat due to its unique flavor and nutritional value. Monounsaturated fats, such as oleic acid, also found in olive oil, are beneficial for heart health. How pigs are raised also influences nutritional benefits. Surrey Live reports that lard contains fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin D, especially for pigs raised outdoors. Fat from pasture-raised pigs is healthier in terms of its nutritional value. Therefore, there is no need to feel guilty when consuming lard. However, always remember that moderation is key.
Pork fat also contains unsaturated fatty acids, including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which may have beneficial effects on heart health when consumed in moderation. However, you should keep in mind that instead of frying, choose healthy cooking methods such as grilling, roasting, baking, or broiling.
It is also healthier and richer in unsaturated fatty acids than other meats such as beef and lamb. Of course, pork fat intake should be done in moderation. As quoted by Asia One, a Singapore-based nutritionist interviewed by Chinese Daily said:
Almonds take first place on the list of the world’s 100 healthiest foods. Almonds have a nutrition score of 97.
Second on the list is the cherimoya fruit, which has a nutrition score of 96. This succulent fruit with sweet white flesh is rich in sugar and a source of nutrients such as vitamins A, C, B1, and B2. Cherimoya fruit is also rich in potassium. Ocean Perch secured third place. This Atlantic fish has a nutrition score of 89. Since it is a deep-sea fish, it is also called rockfish. The calorie per 100g is 79kcal. Sea bass is high in protein and low in saturated fat.
This is followed by sea bass, flounder, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds and Swiss chard. Pork fat ranks 8th. Protein is followed by vegetables and fish such as beet greens, peas, red cabbage, tomatoes, mackerel, lettuce, oranges and sweet potatoes. Leeks, pollack, cod, scallops, basil, plums, chili peppers, broccoli rabe, kale, mustard leaves, romaine lettuce, coriander, fish roe, and apricots are also on the list of healthiest foods.
