Washington (TNND) – Popular weight loss pills like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro can change the economy. Goldman Sachs experts predict that by 2028, if 60 million people take the drug, the country’s GDP will increase by trillions of dollars.
Brandin Churchill, a specialist in public policy and preventive care at American universities, said weight loss drugs are likely to boost the country’s gross domestic product.
“In the direction, the kind of GDP growth is certainly there,” Churchill said.
Around Washington Post, Goldman Sachs’ chief economist predicts that by 2028 60 million people are using the drug, GDP will increase by 1%.
“Under various scenarios, they estimate GDP growth of 0.4-3%,” Churchill said.
Churchill says that one of the reasons we can see the shift is because these drugs can help create a healthier workforce. Next, increase productivity.
“More workforce and more productive workforce. Even if the workforce doesn’t grow amongst the employees, even if it improves productivity, it will be more productive,” Churchill said.
But that’s not all. Karl Kunath, a professor who conducted extensive research into these GLP-1s at Emory University, said these drugs are changing the way people shop.
“A place like McDonald’s. They didn’t make their numbers this year, right? They’re having problems,” Coonhart said.
Kuhnert said that as you start to lose weight, lifestyle choices also change and businesses are tracking them. Whether it’s a gym or a clothing store, adjust your business model to meet demand.
“They’re doing what they haven’t done in 20 years now. I mean working out and playing pickle balls. They’re actually taking care of themselves,” Kunert said. .
