Sri Lanka is focused on expanding homeopathy as part of the healthcare system and making it more affordable and accessible to the population.

Health Minister Dr. Narinda Jayatissa shared this vision during a visit to Welisara Homeopathic Hospital, a government-run facility.

The hospital provides daily treatment for respiratory diseases, skin diseases, diabetes, arthritis, and health issues for women and children. It serves 200 outpatients daily and operates an inpatient unit that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Dr. Jayatissa highlighted the benefits of homeopathy, including minimal side effects, and announced plans to improve services. These include filling staff vacancies, ensuring a steady supply of medicines, expanding the inpatient unit to 50 beds, and introducing new services such as X-rays, physiotherapy and consultations. The hospital will also become an educational institution.

The Homeopathic Medical Council proposed further initiatives, including the establishment of homeopathic medical colleges, local production of medicines, and expansion of clinics and hospitals across the country.

They also suggested sending more Sri Lankan students to India for advanced training in homeopathy.
