MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) executives support House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s call for state insurers to enhance services and benefits for members and their dependents. expressed.
PhilHealth President and CEO Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. made this assertion when the agency briefed the House Health Committee on its benefits package.
“We are aligned with Chairman Martin when he said we must aggressively and continuously increase PhilHealth case packages across the board,” Ledesma said.
Earlier, Romualdez ordered a review of PhilHealth’s charter to expand benefits for patients, such as early detection of cancer, and provide patients with more comprehensive health coverage.
The chairman particularly wanted to increase benefits to cover at least 50 percent of the cost of private hospital wards and provide free testing for early detection of deadly diseases such as cancer.
Ledesma said that as part of PhilHealth’s main mission, there is a need to increase welfare benefits to make it easier for Filipinos to access health services.
He acknowledged that PhilHealth has increased the coverage rates for most benefit packages since February 14 last year, but further increases are “justified.”
